Does Your Blog Need Glasses? Blogging with a Vision

by Brad Aldrich, One Flesh Marriage

This is the start of a wonderful relationship. Yes, blogging is the start of a great relationship, a relationship with the public and your readers. Where you take that relationship is up to you and God!

There are several reasons you might be considering jumping into online marriage ministry.

  • You may have no other plans then to share the awesome lessons that God has taught you in your own marriage.
  • You might be looking to launch or grow your church’s marriage ministry.
  • You might have a goal of publishing the next Amazon best-selling Christian marriage book.
  • You might be envisioning hitting the marriage speaking circuit, presenting your material across the world.

All of these are possible reasons to launch a marriage blog. Blogs make excellent platforms to tell the world what you have to offer. Understanding your blog’s vision will make sure you know where you want to go, help you establish realistic goals, and keep perspective.

Do You Need A Vision?

Even if you are not hoping to be the next Gary Chapman or Mark & Grace Driscoll you still need to think about your blog’s vision. Many of the bloggers of CMBA started only because they were being obedient to a call from God. However, some consideration to the future is still important. Without this vision it will be impossible to know if your blog is meeting its goals.

Important decisions about how and where you set up your blog will be made based on your vision. For example, if you blog anonymously it will be very difficult to turn around and develop a speaking or author platform with your material. Also, if you blog on your church’s or counseling center’s website you might not actually own the material you produce.

Make sure you consider all of these issues before taking your first steps.

If you know that you would like to use your blog to build into a larger vision make sure to read Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michael Hyatt. This book is an excellent resource that talks step by step about how to build your online platform. Even if you don’t have a larger vision in mind this book should be on every bloggers reading list!

  2. Thank you for your leadership and your insight. This is helping me redefine my ideas about my ministry.

  3. Thanks for the heads-up!
